Here at our professional skin clinic in Basingstoke we’re often asked the question ‘what is radiofrequency microneedling?’ The words ‘needle’ and ‘radiofrequency’ together can sound a bit ominous and confusing! So, we’re here to demystify all the jargon and technical stuff, reassuring you about the safety and effectiveness of this fantastic anti-aging skin treatment.
Microneedling with radiofrequency (also referred to as RF microneedling) is an advanced, non-surgical, anti-aging treatment using a combination of tiny needles and radiofrequency which tightens, firms and lifts your skin, visibly reducing wrinkles, enlarged pores and has the additional benefit of minimising other skin blemishes and acne scarring.
Many A-listers are now turning to radiofrequency microneedling as a less invasive alternative to injectable fillers and surgery.
You can find out more about exactly how RF microneedling works in our previous blog: Reduce fine lines and wrinkles with our non-invasive RF microneedling procedure
Is radiofrequency microneedling safe?
The first recorded microneedling procedure was in 1905 by a German dermatologist to treat wrinkles and scars using a hypodermic needle to stimulate collagen production in skin and has been widely practiced for more than 25 years. And if you think about it Acupuncture, which also uses the insertion of needles into the skin, has been around for over 3,000 years!
Radiofrequency for skin tightening is also considered extremely safe and has been approved by the FDA for reducing the appearance of wrinkles. The radiofrequency waves give off heat that prompts your skin to produce more collagen and elastin, whilst also speeding up cell regeneration, resulting in thicker, firmer skin.
So, yes radiofrequency microneedling is generally extremely safe, as long as the procedure is performed by a skilled and experienced professional.
We’ve researched extensively the best radiofrequency microneedling technology on the market and invested in the Lynton Dual Focus with HIFU Technology, which is Medical CE certified, giving you the confidence that our RF microneedling treatments are carried out to the highest of standard.
We’ve been using the technology at The Beauty Spot in Basingstoke for nearly two years and our staff have undergone rigorous professional training to perform this treatment, including using it on each other.

Are there any side effects?
There is virtually no downtime after our RF microneedling procedures. A slight swelling and redness is usually present immediately post-treatment but should subside quickly. Most people can go back to normal activities straight after the treatment.
We do recommend use of the Lynton aftercare products post treatment to maximise results and protect your skin which you can purchase from our online shop or in the salon: Aesthetic treatment aftercare products
How often should you do microneedling?
Results can be seen immediately after just one session; however skin can keep tightening for up to 6 months after the treatment.
We generally recommend a minimum of 2 and up to 6 treatments, at 4-week intervals for the best results, depending on your areas of skin concern.
Once you’ve had the course of treatment you shouldn’t need to repeat it for one to two years, whereas fillers need to be touched up several times a year.
How much does radiofrequency microneedling cost?
Prices start from just £200 per area and courses of treatments are available at a discounted rate. Find out more FAQs on our treatments page: Focus Dual – Radiofrequency Microneedling
