Here at The Beauty Spot in Basingstoke we offer a range of effective hair removal treatments, including IPL (intense pulsed light therapy), warm wax and hot wax hair removal treatments.
We’re often asked for advise about the different hair removal methods available, especially the benefits of waxing versus shaving, epilators, and hair removal creams.
This month we are going to talk you through the key benefits of waxing, specifically the warm wax and hot wax methods we use at our beauty salon, which are ideal for instant results that last longer – perfect for the summer months ahead and holiday season!
Warm wax vs hot wax – what is the difference?
We use both warm wax and hot wax, dependent on the area being waxed and the status of the hair. Here’s a brief explanation of the difference and why we use both.
Hot wax
Hot wax can sound a bit ominous, but it’s actually just a slightly higher temperature than the warm wax we use and it’s actually more suited to sensitive skin areas. Hot wax is kinder to your skin and less prone to cause the reddening associated with post-waxing. It is also ideal for much shorter, thicker and more stubborn hair, so we often use it for bikini areas, lip, chin, eyebrows and underarms.
Warm wax
Warm wax is a slightly lower temperature than hot wax and is much more suited to larger areas such as legs, arms, back and chest (male waxing treatments). It is great for removing softer fluffier hairs, which are more common on clients who have regular waxing.
Here’s our top 5 benefits of warm and hot wax treatments
1. Longer lasting, less frequency
Waxing lasts much longer than shaving and depilation creams. For most people waxing lasts between 2 – 4 weeks, whereas creams last 1 – 2 weeks and shaving needs to be repeated every 2 – 3 days.
This is because waxing removes the entire hair down to the root, rather than cutting the hair at the surface of the skin. As a result the hair takes much longer to grow back.
2. Finer hairs and less regrowth
Every time you wax the hair becomes weaker, finer, fluffier and less noticeable as it regrows. As mentioned above this has the added bonus of being less painful to remove next time than coarser hairs and can be done using the warm wax. Over time some hairs may stop growing back altogether, meaning you get less regrowth.
3. Less irritation and no shaving rash!
Many people suffer with blotchy itchy shaving rash post shaving, especially those of us with sensitive skin. This is due to the friction of the razor blade against your skins surface, resulting in discomfort, which you then repeat again every 2 – 3 days when you need to remove the regrowth, making it worse.
None of us want a permanent uncomfortable and unsightly rash throughout the summer when we want to get our legs out!
We’re not going to lie to you, waxing isn’t pain-free, however most people just experience an initial swift sting as the hair is removed, followed by a slight tingling and some redness, which usually quickly subsides. However, waxing gives your skin a much-needed break for 2 – 4 weeks in between hair removal, allowing it to calm down.
Our warm and hot wax also contains natural soothing ingredients and the hair removal process is followed by the application of a calming moisturiser to leave your skin hydrated.
4. Exfoliating effect
Roll up, roll up, you get two for the price of one! Yes, the waxing process also has the added benefit of working a bit like an exfoliant, removing grime and dead skin cells from your skins surface. So you get an extra mini treatment to clean and refresh your skin. We do still recommend that you exfoliate a few days before your waxing treatment to get the best results, and advise against exfoliating for at least 48 hours after waxing to avoid excessive skin irritation.
5. No irritating nicks and cuts
As we all know, it doesn’t matter how much shaving cream you use, we all end up with the occasional nick or cut, especially in those tricky areas around the knees, ankles and bikini area. With our professional waxing treatments there is no damage to your skin, so no unsightly plasters or scabs!
Other benefits include less ingrown hairs, which can become painful, and even infected, as well as unattractive. Waxing is also easier for those difficult to reach and more intimate areas.
